The Qinhuangdao Marriott Resort is located along the Bohai Sea. The V-shaped hotel architecture is perpendicular to the 2.8-kilometer golden coastline, which limits the sea view. The long winter and insufficient supporting facilities around also hinder guests from enjoying the sea.
Hence, the public area is arranged along the perimeter of the architecture and the guest room is designed with a tilt of 45° so that guests will relish the sea view wherever they go.
The charm of the sea is ubiquitous in the space: the nearly 10-meter-high whale installation in the lobby, the greenish blue acrylic brick wall inspired by the Shanhai Pass, the sailboat-like artistic light groups, the motion-activated wall, the reef-shaped stools and bookcases recessing like coastlines in the lobby lounge. What’s worth mentioning is that a complementary design principle is applied in the project to create elegant space rhythm and ambience. For instance, the spacious lobby, with an area of nearly 550 sq.m, is intertwined with rich layers, bringing out quietness from dynamism, while the MANO bar couples softness with hardness, breaking the boundary between interior and exterior.
