A Rube machine is a contraption designed to solve a simple task in the most complicated way possible. The Kodak camera, George Eastman's own Rube Goldberg machine, was revolutionary at its creation. Aperture takes that radical nature further to celebrate the camera as a machine and the delicateness of its parts and pieces.

Aperture will provide the DelMonte Hotel Group with a multi-experience dining area for their newest holding at 151 St. Paul St. on the corner of Andrews St. in Rochester, NY. The vibrant dining room and bar will include architectural forms inspired by the history of photography in the city and more specifically, the mechanics of cameras. A deconstruction of George Eastman's Rube Goldberg machine, and others similar to it, will be the basis for shapes and views taken on by those forms. The mirrors, lens, and shutters found in a camera will be reflected upon by windows and customer vistas throughout the restaurant. Visitors with camera experience will be able to identify pieces called out in the design and those that are non-camera literate will be able to experience the framed vistas created in "viewfinders" of the space.
