Our design vision for this property overlooking an idyllic bay in Maine was airy, bright, and cheerful retreats that pay tribute to the area’s seafaring history. White Shiplap walls create a clean, inviting space while showcasing the vintage art and nautical accents (including carefully curated ropes, buoys, and boat hardware sourced throughout New England over the past year) adorning them. To contrast the white walls, we added pops of cheery colors throughout, including Benjamin Moore Sky Blue ceilings, and selected sandy-colored Du Chateau flooring with rattan area rugs, bamboo window shades, wicker chairs, and pleated café curtains in classic ticking fabric. Maine Woodworks, a local artisan, created the bedside tables we had painted in lively coastal colors. Additional design elements include neon red doors, black interior hardware, and light fixtures from Sazerac Stitches and Schoolhouse Electric. The result of our efforts is “classic Maine cottage” meets “nostalgic nautical” with plenty of Americana details and coastal style.
