The building concepts designed in this winning competition entry are each sourced from the components outward. The studio mapped the full timber yield and product resources of the Czech Republic prior to the start of design, ensuring that 100% of necessary building components could be sourced directly by the architect within a 150km range of the site.
The goal was to singularly own the carbon footprint, construction specification, and cost structures of the project beginning in the architectural concept phase of a project prior to design. This project is the transition of a Czech castle complex into an eco-conscious retreat. Within the bounds of the project are 64 castle rooms, 5 new villas, a Michelin Star restaurant with a regenerative farm on-site, and the restoration of over 200,000SF of historic castle.
Timber + Stone was designed for and won an international design competition from 2020-2021.
