Punta Mayia is a small apartment complex located in Zicatela, Oaxaca, just a 10-minute walk from the beach, on the southwest coast of Mexico. The project was conceived following a rigorous market analysis to cater to the high vacation demand, aiming to provide an accessible and innovative rental option for tourists. Its design sought to address the prevalent trend in the vicinity, where residences exhibited minimal interaction between private and public spaces. To counter this, the design prominently features a central common area, fostering a sense of community and promoting enjoyment from within and outside.
The project comprises three primary rectangular structures, each positioned at a corner of the plot, encircling the pool and the main patio—the heart of public interaction. This fragmented layout draws inspiration from the traditional indigenous residences of the area, which often place private spaces around communal hubs. The architectural style leans heavily into Mediterranean influences, aiming to infuse a vibrant beachside ambiance. The successful amalgamation of these elements, combined with the chosen color palette and vegetation offers an unparalleled experience.
