The Ranya Hotel is located in Wulingshan, Chengde, China, a mountainous area about 250 kilometers away from Beijing, the capital of China. This hotel includes a main building with 98 rooms and several supporting spaces such as Japanese restaurant, bistro, cafeteria, coffee shop, and a hot spring cottage on the other side, surrounded by mountains. It is a place with both independency and comprehensive functions?
The entire hotel, as a renovation project, transformed from a past reception facility. "Preserving the original" and "Environmental compatibility" were our continuous beliefs and principles throughout the design process. Following the architectural form and the sense of past life mechanism, this place was re-created in a more organic growth method to regenerate it. The renovation process of Ranya Hotel is like pruning flowers and plants that have not been arranged for a long time, rather than pulling them out and starting over. After all, while we are looking forward to the new look of old buildings, we also want to retain the memories of the past.
