The Greatroom is the pulse of the Zürich Marriott Hotel, and it harmonizes reception, lobby lounge and bar in a single open space. Its renovation was completed in June 2020.
The design of the Greatroom has been inspired by the nearby Zürich main railway station, railway tracks and gear trains, which can be perceived in the details of the partition, monumental brass ceiling, bold vertical lines and a careful selection of the lighting features. The multi-functional, open plan scheme is designed to reflect our modern lifestyle where the opposing demands for privacy and human connection, work and socialising need to be met within a flexible space. Integrated as an artistic and architectural element, the railway tracks inspired partitions serve to zone the open space without completely closing off any areas. The main feature of the Greatroom is the central disruptive bar, an open free-standing bar that is central to the lounge. Transforming throughout the day from morning breakfast and coffee service to afternoon cocktails in a relaxed lobby environment in the afternoon and evening, the back bar area can be completely open or closed, depending on the needs and the time of day.
