Salhia Real Estate entrusted Pace with the redesign of Salhia Complex’s entrance and the renowned JW Marriott. Since 1979, Salhia Complex has stood as a pioneering complex in the region, setting the gold standard in retail architecture. This refurbishment will add a newly renovated hotel in the heart of Kuwait City. The hotel design included an extension of the ground floor to the outside and created a new public realm to the hotel’s main reception. Reimagining the iconic JW Marriott, Pace sought to uphold the historical significance and timeless allure of the hotel and the complex. Pace’s approach focused on adaptive reuse to maintain one of Kuwait’s key buildings, which had survived the Gulf War, bringing new life into the Kuwait Downtown ‘Iconic Gate’. This resulted in carbon emissions savings of approximately 30% below baseline. The Pace vision is realised through meticulous attention to the quality of materials and a profound respect for the site’s history. These principles serve as the pillars upon which the design is built, harmoniously blending the heritage of the development with a fresh, contemporary aesthetic that will reignite its architectural prominence in the city.
