Few early 20th-century houses have survived urban development. The hotel and four neighboring houses are protected as historical heritage of Buenos Aires. These houses, built around a central courtyard, are known as "casas chorizo" for their long, narrow shape. In planning an extension, we proposed to maintain the courtyard throughout the new six-story addition, setting it back from the street so it appears to float above the protected building. The new construction does not compete with the existing structure; it represents 21st-century technology in harmony with the previous century's design, following the same compositional principles. An olive tree will be planted in the courtyard, featuring granite mosaic paving and minimalist chairs. The historic facade, with its decorative elements, will blend with contemporary furniture in the common areas. The extension will use naval steel profiles and white-painted aluminum. Few buildings nearby will surpass the height of the green terrace, allowing views of the skyline while enjoying the pool or drinks. This proposal aims to preserve the hotel's character, integrating historic and contemporary elements.
