A Café Where Forests and Cities Meet
Attached to the Ishikawa Prefectural Library, this café embodies the concept of “abstracted Ishikawa nature,” blending urban life with the forests of Ishikawa Prefecture. Locally sourced wood from across the region is used throughout the space, with walls covered in panels inspired by natural tree forms and seating reminiscent of terraced rice fields, offering a relaxing connection to nature.
WOOD FOOTPRINT
To highlight sustainability, the café features a “wood footprint” system, tracing the origins of its materials. Wood from five forests in Ishikawa is mapped in-store, inviting visitors to reflect on the forests that provided these resources.
Connecting Forests and Towns
Thinned wood and scraps are crafted into objects, trays, and tags, shaped to represent the harmony of forests and cities. Books representing all towns in Ishikawa are arranged by map order, paired with animal figures, creating a visual “picture scroll” that celebrates the bond between nature and community.
