DESIGN BRIEF:
Our conceptual design for this project is a tribute to Beirut's heritage, the city of gardens, where visitors can experience Levantine culture. Its identity is expressed through terrazzo flooring, paneled walls, enameled cypress, and pomegranate trees depicted on Iznik tiles. Reflective ceilings and engraved surfaces around the Orientalist winter garden theme allow the volumes to breathe in light.
DESIGN CHALLENGES:
Extremely low floor-to-ceiling height, measuring 215 cm at its highest and 195 cm at its lowest, with two disproportionately large pillars in the middle of the space.
The challenge of fitting a minimum seating capacity of 84 guests into a 100 sqm area, as required by the client’s business plan, while also accommodating a minimum kitchen size of 80 sqm.
DESIGN RESULTS:
A comfortable environment where Em Sherif’s guests are transported to an Orientalist winter garden and introduced to Lebanese arts and crafts through enameled blue tiles, geometric marquetry patterns, embroideries, terrazzo flooring, and lacquered wood paneling—all interpreted in a contemporary style.
