Casa Ikal is a secluded beach retreat located in Boca Paila, within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Set between the Caribbean Sea and a mangrove lagoon, the house blends contemporary design with deep environmental respect. Elevated on concrete stilts, it allows native vegetation and wildlife to thrive beneath, minimizing ecological impact. Designed as a family vacation home, the project uses local materials like chukum and certified machiche wood, enhancing sustainability and regional identity. The layout orients all spaces toward the sea and lagoon, with terraces, patios, and native gardens fostering constant interaction with the surroundings. Passive strategies—cross ventilation, natural shading, thermal-mass walls—combine with active systems like solar panels, wind turbines, and water harvesting to ensure energy efficiency and self-sufficiency. More than a home, Casa Ikal is a beach destination that redefines responsible luxury, offering a sensory, immersive experience fully integrated into one of Mexico’s most extraordinary natural settings.
