This Hot Pot Restaurant, nestled in the historic harbor city of Anping, Taiwan, represents a harmonious blend of natural materials, pre-existing architectural elements, and thoughtful spatial planning. Commissioned by the second-generation owners of a Michelin-starred culinary establishment, the design brief called for a light, airy space that exuded quality and avoided overt commerciality. The core concept revolves around celebrating the inherent beauty of natural materials and integrating them seamlessly into the existing structure. A defining feature of the original site was a collection of stones amassed by the previous owner. Rather than concealing these, the design team chose to showcase them, creating textured walls that evoke the rugged coastline of Anping. This emphasis on natural elements extends to the material palette, dominated by natural-colored plywood treated with a simple eco-friendly protective coating, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing visual warmth. The light color scheme, a client requirement, complements the natural materials, fostering a sense of spaciousness and tranquility.
