The Xiaye Zhang Residence in Zhejiang's village reimagines traditional courtyard living through a contemporary lens. We innovatively reconfigured the space by dividing the site into four themed courtyards representing the four seasons, creating a unique "Four Seasons Courtyard" concept. The building massing maintains harmonious proportions through horizontal layering, with each of the three floors exhibiting distinct characteristics: the ground floor embodies openness and integration, the second floor turns inward for introspection, while the top floor expands outward with sweeping views.Breaking conventional boundaries, the second floor transforms into a "fifth courtyard," where non-orthogonal walls, gradually shifting gaps, and precise light control create an ever-changing interior experience. Material selection echoes the village context, with three primary stone tones corresponding to local roofs, earth walls, and vegetation, establishing a dialogue between tradition and modernity. This residence not only fulfills contemporary living standards but also reinterprets rural architecture through modern design vocabulary, standing as a unique bridge connecting tradition with future.
