Renaissance NanNing is inspired by the Zhuang tribe in Guangxi, China. With agriculture as their main source of livelihood, the people paid tribute through ethnic music and dance. Bronze drums were believed to bring rain for irrigation whilst dragon-dance and fireworks celebrated a rich harvest. The guest arrival experience starts with the journey through the wet season and culminates with the harvest celebrations. Guests are greeted by the “raining” foyer dripping with vertical glass rods before entering the lobby. The sculptural feature wall at the reception counter reminds one of the terraced fields. At the All Day Dining, scenes of the street feast are recreated with abstract vernacular architecture facades with the buffet area interpreted as the village market. The inspiration for the banquet hall comes from the fireworks lighting to celebrate important festivals. The guestrooms tell the story of the tribe’s weaving craft. Lights are interwoven by casting overlapping beams of blue / red rays running through the entire corridor. The weaving story continues into the guestroom where deconstructed patterns are woven into the floor tiles, wall, carpet and lighting.
