The charming My Khe beach of Danang city had been disrupted by the strong sense of development momentum with high construction density, resulted in a “forest” of concrete blocks and a lack of greeneries.

In such a context, VTN Architects’ solution was rather simple, yet elegant. On a small site of only 700 square meters, the design team’s approach was to create a structure that is vertically filled with as many plants as possible. Not only does the idea enhance the landscape of the building as well as the living quality of the visitors, but also drastically improves the area’s lack of greeneries situation. However, Danang's tropical climate meant the area experiences both strong amounts of sunlight and heavy rainfall throughout the year. Therefore, creating a vertical green façade system on a high-rise and experiencing the hefty prevailing wind of My Khe beach was not an easy challenge. Each balcony position and level had to be carefully studied to select the appropriate types of plants or soils, hence the biodiversity changes on every level.
Chicland Hotel was designed to meet the business requirements of the client but not to be confined by commercial architecture.
