At the level 5 of Ritz-Carlton Perth is rooftop bar Songbird enjoying the landscaped terraces and infinity pool with a commanding view to both the immediate Quayside and the setting sun beyond.
The indoor bar of 50 seats, designed by AND Associates Ltd in Hong Kong, provides an all-weather venue. But on Perth’s many balmy evenings the stacking sliding doors either side of the bar joinery are opened to immerse the bar bar in the nearby landscaping, with minimal bar-bar joinery to detract from the panoramic city view beyond.
AND’s brief was to design an interior space more imaginative and unexpected than the other Hotel's venues. Taking the moves from the aviary imaginary we stepped into a disguised design language that aim at an intriguing and elegant final result. Furniture and screens are tightly arranged to create the sense of compression which is necessary to the conviviality of an evening bar. Soft gold metalworks and glitter glass accents are superimposed to more tactile surfaces and textiles to deliver a hype-filled yet sophisticated atmosphere; backlit wall panels and ceiling trellis seem to allude either to bird perches or the air in-between.
