The Pitch is a distinct hospitality and entertainment complex for Austin FC soccer fans and the community. The two-acre site is a one-of-a-kind destination hub for retail, food, office and outdoor gatherings served from 23 two-story repurposed shipping containers. Using two standard sizes (8x20 foot and 8x40 foot) the containers are stacked and clustered into five separate building pods with varying square footage. Ground level containers serve as food and beverage outlets for premiere local food vendors. Second level containers are multifunctional as viewing decks, interior gathering spaces, private office, party rooms, and Austin FC game watching. Custom stairs, vertical tube steel railings, and overhead trellises were carefully designed and executed tying together each level and event. Three 40-foot-tall containers were placed on ends serving as wayfinding nodes from afar, while functioning as restrooms and electrical rooms at ground. A mass timber pavilion acts as a communal gathering hub for all patrons. The once flat site was heavily landscaped to nestle the containers and curate different user experiences with each visit, enticing exploration across the complex.
