Combining an eclectic mix of Eastern and Western interior design influences, The Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah, Dubai sits between the Persian Gulf and the the metropolis of Dubai. With design led by the Kuala Lumpur-based firm DESIGNWILKES, the hotel opened in February 2019 with lobby planning approached in traditional Islamic style. Points of focus included the lobby, lobby lounge, cake shop; pre-function, ballroom and meeting rooms; as well as the guest rooms and suites.

One of the hotel’s standout features is “The Canopy of Light,” a collection of trees made of blown crystal flowers and inspired by the area’s orange blossoms. Uniting the front of the hotel to the beach, the canopy’s styling is contemporary with lights in the tree trunks and art deco in approach.

The garden from the arrival grand entrance is carried through the enormous lobby space, with water features and walkways, stone bridges and teak decks bringing visitors to the beach. The design is rich in texture and reflection, from the weathered travertines to the polished timbers, subtle leathers and shimmering bronze. Linen textures, velvet and embroidery are combined to create an inviting and relaxing interior.
