This project is renovated into an integrated spa & wellness in a part of the major renovation of a 130 year old luxury hotel.
Natural wood feeling is giving the interior space a sense of refined aesthetics and luxury. The men’s and women’s changing rooms are distinguished by the color differences in finishes. The colors recall maple leaves in early summer and autumn. The idea came from a local temple, famous for its black polished floors that reflect the colors of the maple leaves.
In contrast, the interior of the hot spring baths itself is also infused with sinuous curved in a bold statement to express the beauty of nature. The semi-open-air bath enclosures shaped in the form of Suirokaku (Arch forming the historical aqueduct) located on the side pay homage to the vestiges of artifact found in proximity of the hotel which remind the guests of its historical context inherent to the site and by bringing the natural surrounding and the mountain ridges seen from the hotel into both architectural and interior themes, the unique setting of the site can be fully experienced in authenticating the historical hotel.
