The design directive for the architect was to create affordable, eco-friendly modular BNB units for visitors at a mid-sized winery in central California near Paso Robles. The site is equal distance from Los Angeles and San Francisco airports with easy access for global tourism.

The architecture and its aesthetic was created to express the surrounding agricultural landscape and local, ranch imagery of the region, as well as to incorporate a dramatic, global identity to enhance interest in the wine market.

It was decided to incorporate cargo containers into a 'hybrid design' that integrates pre-fabricated, recycled industrial building and energy systems with conventional construction and locally sourced recycled materials and products. There are 8 BnB units @ 400 SF ea. with decks placed in 2 clusters and lifted 8' above shaded parking to maximize 360 deg views over the surrounding wine country. The clusters enclose an open recreation space under an enormous live oak. Each unit consists of a 20'l. x 12'h. naturally lite and ventilated circulation module with one 8'w. x 20'l. container placed on each side, one for sleeping, the other bathing and both with deck access and views.
