The new Pelican Brewing Company is on a narrow sliver of land overlooking shifting tides & driftwood covered beaches. Our goal was to create a casual, honest space for guests to comfortably experience the natural beauty of the Oregon Coast.

The program opens the building up to the outside, inviting it in. Two opposing shed roofs extend over interior & exterior spaces. The spaces are woven together, immersing patrons in the atmosphere of the bay & beach. The floor plan breaks up the spaces and creates a variety of different experiences.

The procession starts with a breezeway & inglenook, with its double-sided fireplace, dining area, and direct boardwalk access. It continues through a growler station & retail space to enter the bar and the dramatic 2-story dining room.

The heavy-timber structure, with on-site brewery, is inspired by working coastal buildings. The interior is like a lantern on the coast. Lighter materials contrast the dark wood used at the exterior. Fabrics emulate the sunsets & coastal light. Eye-catching fixtures, reminiscent of fishing baskets, maintain transparency. The central fireplace brings warmth & community even on classically chilly Oregon coast days.
