The Boatyard Hotel is located in Suzhou, China. The overall form of the building is borrowed from the canopy roof of the Wu-top boat - a semi-circular top made of bamboo. The longitudinal juxtaposition of the deformed semi-circular top brings a unique feeling to the interior space and unifies the indoor and outdoor experience.
The spatial sequence of the hotel is divided into horizontal and vertical axes, with the vertical running through the private and public areas and the flat with corridors and courtyards separating movement and tranquillity. The visual transition from dark to light, the contrast and the impact of the senses reinforce the quiet atmosphere of the lobby space.
The interconnected layout of the outdoor, semi-outdoor, and indoor spaces infuses both public areas and guest rooms with a distinctive spatial rhythm, allowing residents to experience the changes in weather and the flow of scenery while enjoying their leisure time.
