Rooted on the north shore of Kauai, panoramic views provide a utopian backdrop. An open-air structure, the biophilic focused design seamlessly blends and embraces local foliage, brilliant daylight and layered textures. Indigenous and endemic plant life weave through structures causing the hotel to virtually vanish into the cliffside. Consideration to the sacred story of the Hawaiian heritage was intertwined with each design decision.
In the Lobby Bar, the interior/exterior language is continued with fully opening sliding glass doors and all furniture groupings facing outward toward the views.
The nature-inspired rooms and suites, evoke a sense of sacred place. Handmade jute rugs on floors fashioned from local basalt, reclaimed wood ceilings and deep-toned limewash walls provide a uniquely framed view of Hanalei Bay. Handwoven lighting, lashing details, furnishings from reclaimed teak, handwoven natural screens and headboards and curated local artworks add a personal touch. Guests are invited to lounge on soft, layered textiles enveloping bespoke furnishings, such as the traditional Punai daybeds. Louvered shutters lend to a more diffused experience, with sunlight streaming in.
