Nestled within the undulating dunes between Montauk and Amagansett, this residence serves as a year-round retreat for a New York family. Positioned to seamlessly integrate with its surroundings, the home offers a tranquil oasis overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Drawing inspiration from the picturesque waterfront views and the subtle undertones of the sandy beach throughout different times of year, the design of this home cultivates a natural ambiance that mixes both cool and warm palettes. Intentionally minimalistic in its design – both inside and out – the residence derives its form by playing with essential geometries. This can be seen at every scale, from the master plan of the home (a series of stacked boxes following the terrain of the site), to the floating central fireplace and a bright white bunk room with generously framed proportions. A true vacation home, the project also embraces a more playful and surprising side, featuring a one-of-a-kind ceramic pendant, unique artwork, and a fuchsia mirror that pays homage to the wildflower fields en route to Montauk. The resulting space is decidedly modern but also gentle and beautiful.
