Asgard Inn on Weizhou Island, Beihai City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, transformed from a dilapidated hotel, seamlessly integrates open spaces, connecting structures for a cohesive spatial system. New functions include reception, bar, banquet, entertainment, and relaxation. Considering Weizhou island climate, the interior blurs boundaries, fostering a closer connection between guests and nature.
Renovation merges structural, architectural, interior, and landscape design, avoiding excessive ornamentation. Local materials like coral stones, red soil, plants, and shells are seamlessly integrated. The design, using construction, lighting, texture, and geometry, achieves order, harmony, and structural symmetry. Merging island aesthetics with Eastern wabi-sabi principles offers a romantic, mysterious experience, allowing guests to fully immerse in the comfort and relaxation of an island getaway.
During the pandemic, the design team was stranded on the island, turning isolation into an opportunity for meticulous refinement. The designer's tranquility harmonizes with the "Sea and Rock" theme, offering guests a peaceful experience.
