Perched high above the ocean, Sora tells the story of the Nikkei-inspired bar cuisine (Peruvian with Japanese influences) in three dimensions. Clean, modern and sculptural forms mix with the bright colors and earthy textures of Peruvian textiles to create a rooftop bar that’s earthy and sophisticated.
The design team worked with local construction and craft teams to beautiful effect. The entry, nestled in a desert landscape, sets the stage with its whimsically carved host stand, substantial metal pivot wall and textural breeze block wall. Magenta tile creates a strong graphic statement at the curving bar. Here, the top shelf here is reserved for a curated collection Oaxacan pottery hand-sourced by the team. A smooth latilla ceiling offers protection with modern flair. The poured, terrazzo-style bar top is designed with the open-air setting in mind.
The entirely outdoor space that embraces its cliffside setting. Built-in plaster bancos seem to be carved from the stone cliffs. The firepit lounge cantilevers out into the expanse of ocean.
