Responding to the brief to create an elevated ambiance for Kolamba's second site, the interiors team crafted a design that extends the essence of the brand while introducing refined elements, preserving the building's historic architectural features. The design strikes a peaceful balance between modernity and the tropical vibes of Sri Lanka.
The design has a harmonious material palette of rough bright white plaster finishes juxtaposed against the industrial warehouse elements, with brickwork and original ceilings enhanced by backlit timber panelling inspired by Geoffrey Bawa's modernist ideals, paying homage to the famed Sri Lankan architect.
Key to the design are custom elements such as a floating effect bar serving as a central focal point, with the surrounding crazy paving floor adorned with Oasis Green marble offcuts - a tribute to the large-format terrazzo on the bar of the brands original site.
The space is infused with Sri Lankan culture; bespoke batik fabrics, a custom diptych by Prageeth Manohansa, and handmade dining chairs and lotus table lamps crafted by artisans in Colombo, all capturing Sri Lankan heritage while honouring modernist principals.
Bio FARE INC. is a London based design studio specialising in interior design, hospitality design and their neighbouring disciplines.
