Ôpartment began by refurbishing the historic building at 90 Xizang Middle Road, Shanghai. Formerly the Far Eastern Hotel, it marked its centenary in 2023. The facade restoration focused on reviving its original charm, removing clutter, restoring Bund-inspired colors, and redesigning the entrance for harmony.
Inspired by a century-old photo, the design blends history and modernity. The lobby dome evokes billowing silk, while glass bricks replace aged red bricks, symbolizing rebirth. The lobby, akin to a living room, features a discreet service desk and seasonal displays for a welcoming atmosphere.
Interior renovation recreated the building’s essence with tall ceilings, symmetrical layouts, and French-style details. Corridors resembling train carriages connect past and present, embodying lifestyle and taste.
Details like address plates, subtle signage, and unobtrusive safety features enhance comfort. Guest rooms offer terrace views and understated elegance, honoring classic French design. Luxury is redefined as a blend of taste and lifestyle, reflecting Shanghai’s unique culture. Ôpartment fosters a love for refined living, making guests feel truly at home.
Bio DESIGN ONBOARD STUDIO was established in 2015 and is located in Shanghai, China. Its founders, K.D Hsu and Carlie Ling, possess diverse professional characteristics within the same field, resulting in projects that yield deeper and more comprehensive outcomes.
