The Mercure brand is renowned for its inspiration from local culture and tradition. For the Mercure Wien City hotel, located in the centre of Vienna, the Polish architecture studio AKA Studio found these inspirations in the motifs of the Wiener Werkstätte - a direction in art, architecture and fashion from the Viennese Secession.
Creating a new quality of place, the architects focused on opening up the building to the street, so that the colours, patterns and natural materials seen through the window invite you in. The design is consistently based on a reinterpretation of motifs familiar from the Wiener Werkstätte. Thus, the interiors feature characteristic geometric motifs based on straight lines and a strong play of contrasts. Values typical of the Wiener Werkstätte, such as the spirit of cooperation, a holistic approach to design, attention to detail and praise for traditional craftsmanship, have also been transferred to the present day.
