Natureza Urbana has developed a sustainable ecotourism plan for the Umm Al Quwain Marine Protected Area in the UAE, covering 152 km² of one of the last and most preserved areas in the Emirates, which is home to endangered marine species. The plan includes ecotourism circuits and activities that connect visitors with local biodiversity, and also hospitality equipments and infrastructures.
The design includes visitor structures with minimal environmental impact, focusing on eco lodges, glamping sites, and boutique hotels. Eco lodges are elevated and use sustainable materials; glamping features lightweight structures; and boutique hotels incorporate energy-efficient technologies.
By employing a thoughtful mix of accommodation types and adhering to sustainable practices, this plan aims to create an ecotourism model that not only attracts visitors but also serves as a steward for the environment, ensuring that the area's diverse ecosystems remain vibrant and healthy for future generations. Each intervention is carefully tailored to the specific characteristics of its location, contributing to the long-term resilience and sustainability of the Umm Al Quwain Marine Protected Area.
