The conversion of the US Embassy in London to The Chancery Rosewood was unique. The brief called for the creation of a luxury hotel and a destination unrivalled in the capital requiring the team to go beyond typical aspirations for hotels and consider a wide mix of public functions, activating the square and translating the property into a major Mayfair hub.
Our role was to facilitate this repurposing while refurbishing and enhancing the building’s Grade ll listed architectural characteristics. Working alongside the Design Architect, we provided a fit-for-purpose hotel plan before assuming leadership of the project as Executive Architect and then overseeing implementation of the architecture and interior design.
144 suites were created which are amongst the largest hotel guestrooms in London. The new top floor accommodates a rooftop bar with views east and west as well as two premier “houses”. The hotel also encompasses a variety of F&B, a spa & pool, a grand ballroom and retail spaces at street level.
Meticulous attention to environmental issues led to Chancery Rosewood being named the UK’s first five-star hotel to receive a BREEAM outstanding rating for sustainable development.
