The Ananas Spa embodies the future of wellness architecture through its geometry, materiality and ecological integration. The project forms an essential component of the resort´s master plan designed by the same studio.
The architecture was inspired by the the pineapple’s hexagonal shell, an enduring symbol of Bahamian agrarian traditions. Its modular system of hexagonal pavilions, complemented by a rectilinear lobby and fitness center, is dispersed within a tropical garden and linked by bridges across reflective ponds, creating seamless transitions between treatment, relaxation, and wellness spaces. Materiality anchors the dialogue between nature and architecture: stone totems with vegetation, stratified stone flooring, and bamboo-clad façades provide texture, and sustainable expression. Landscape and water systems serve as ecological infrastructure, with ponds functioning as rainwater reservoirs that irrigate the golf course and supply spa demands while structuring the site. Sustainability is embedded at every scale: passive cooling, thermal mass, brise-soleil and cross-ventilation reduce energy needs; rainwater harvesting, native planting, green roofs, mitigate climate impacts.
