During the research stage, the designers came across a beautiful black and white photograph of the original restaurant that resided in the very same spot as Coco’s back in the 1970s. With its simple yet elegant white timber architecture and thatched roof, the previous family-owned restaurant served as a reflection of the island’s long history – one that needed to be celebrated and brought to its former glory. Much like Mauritius itself, Coco’s combines colonial architecture, with hints of blues of Cote D’Azur, and the vibrant and tropical local patterns of of the local everyday life, offering an idyllic setting where simplicity and elegance meet. The space has been designed to feel like an authentic Mauritian beach house, including individual zoned spaces with their own character and charm, starting with the cocktail bar upon arrival, and branching onto the indoor dining with the feature Chef’s table, as well as layered outdoor seating. With feet in the sand, surrounded by soft white sheers, delicate stripes, deep blue accents, and playful prints, Coco’s combines subdued charm with effortless elegance, aptly capturing its long past and unique identity.
