Rosewood Sand Hill’s Asaya Spa was reimagined as a serene wellness retreat nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Inspired by the natural surroundings, the design incorporates rich wood, chiseled stone, woven rattan, and textured textiles to create a grounded, organic atmosphere. The refreshed reception features textured plaster, custom millwork, and a central linen pendant for warmth. Local artists were commissioned to create ceramic and sculptural works, including a terracotta tile installation inspired by atmospheric rivers and lumen prints from expired flora. The manicure/pedicure salon highlights slatted wood, shou sugi ban details, and handcrafted finishes. Locker rooms were transformed with dark basalt floors, limestone showers, a Finnish sauna, and steam room. Treatment areas feature lime wash plaster, oak floors, and concealed millwork for a calming, minimalist aesthetic. Outdoor spaces were enhanced with local flora, bold tile, and custom seating. The overall design prioritizes sustainability, artistry, and connection to place.
