This contemporary hospitality project in southern Crete applies a wabi sabi–influenced design approach focused on refined simplicity and material honesty. The suites, conceived as coherent island homes, ensure architecture, interiors, and landscape adhere to one restrained, site-responsive language.
The core intention was to craft a restorative sensory world, moving beyond aesthetics to promote stillness and presence, offering guests a feeling of coming home. The material palette centers on regional stone, lime plaster, and timber, prioritizing low environmental impact and longevity in Crete’s climate. The resulting muted color palette, defined by earth tones, chalky whites, and natural wood, creates a visual calm. Surfaces are left unpolished, allowing light and shadow to define the spatial experience.
Crucially, the concept integrated local craft heavily (custom made rough-hewn timber tables, hand-thrown ceramic vessels) to reinforce local traditions but also curated global elements, sourced from a collector to introduce contemporary elegance. Garden elements, executed by local stonemasons using native materials, ensure seamless landscape integration.
