Nestled at 1,200 meters on Jinfo Mountain's northern slope in Chongqing, China, the Cloudhaus Hotel transforms a former sales center into a 24-room boutique hotel, deeply connected to its natural and cultural environment. The design, inspired by the mountain’s essence, incorporates local architecture, materials, and craftsmanship.
Our journey began with extensive research on local buildings and artisans, leading to a design that reflects the mountain’s character. We reused timber from abandoned cabins for the lobby and guest room frames and sourced furniture from a local factory. Decorative features include locally harvested bamboo and dragon scale stones, enhancing the hotel’s authentic sense of place.
We prioritized salvaged and natural materials, like bamboo and native stones, while systematically repurposing construction waste—red bricks from demolished walls were reused in the restaurant, and bamboo scaffolding became ceiling cladding and outdoor paving. This resource-conscious approach minimizes waste, supports local economies, and maintains cost-efficiency while delivering a high-quality design.
