A dated Toronto home is reimagined as light-filled, warm and airy.
A layout of closed-off rooms wasn’t conducive to the young family who lives here. The designer improved the 2,200 sq-ft space by opening up the entry hall, adding a kitchen island and removing a wall between the living and dining rooms.
The style is inspired by Scandinavian interiors and durable materials, such as white oak, travertine and marble, along with bespoke finishes.
White-oak paneling and built-ins frame a sculptural fireplace. The palette is echoed in artwork and every element contributes to a cohesive feel for an inviting space the owners want to be in.
The kitchen island echoes the living room wall treatment for continuity. The palette and clean-lined cabinetry amp up the airiness. Handmade backsplash tiles and smooth countertops are texturally balanced. A pendant light, brass hardware and sculptural faucet add interest.
Visual pops include wallpaper, textured paint finishes, veined marble and an original stained-glass window preserved as a nod to the home’s provenance. This house is atmospheric and connects to everyday family living in an elevated way.
