The Sanctuary House is a retreat nestled in Pacific Palisades, shaped by the area’s profound natural landscape, layered cultural life, and its well-known community spirit—long home to thinkers, writers, and a distinct mid-century modern sensibility.
Rather than operating as a conventional resort, The Sanctuary House offers an immersive journey into becoming part of Palisades life. Through a sequence of quiet, contemplative experiences—ranging from a library-like lodge lobby and lounge to sun-washed pavilions dedicated to slow, restorative rituals—the project cultivates a way of living defined by ease, composure, and inner richness. It is a space where the Palisades ethos of relaxed refinement and cultural depth can be felt rather than observed.
Both guest rooms and public spaces are carefully composed to embrace natural light and the region’s gentle climate. Architecture and interior atmospheres are designed to coexist with sunlight, ocean air, mist, and shifting shadows, allowing nature to remain a constant presence within the hotel. In the guest rooms, time appears to soften—inviting stillness, reflection, and a quiet flow of inner calm.
