With casual industrial chic, the Moxy Hamburg’s open-plan public areas awaken guests’ desire for discovery by providing a guided tour of the harbor city. The concrete floor’s yellow ‘map’ lines direct guests from space to space, each reflecting different neighborhoods’ personas & subtle brand references noticed upon second glance like ‘MOXY’ formed from pipe cleaners. Sightseeing starts from the hotel’s actual St. Georg locale, then visits the Elbe riverbanks with swings & beachside details, followed by the Neustadt and St. Pauli districts where the bar/reception desk is styled like an oversized shipping container. The communal lounge’s 'flying carpets' create magical coziness & recall bustling Speicherstadt, the historical European carpet trade hub. Quieter quarters lead to the tour’s end at Alster, Hamburg’s green lakefront area represented by the hotel’s private courtyard: a rare urban luxury at this price point. Lifts designed like stickered shipping containers rise to the 291 guestrooms, some with courtyard views, that follow Moxy’s European standards JOI-Design created in 2018. With leather, wood, concrete & multifunctional peg walls, they are a natural antidote to city life.
