Located in the heart of the Berkshires, the resort’s design reflects the rich design history of the region. The wellness focused resort and spa sits on a hilltop site overlooking a mountain, with the remnants of a Frederick Law Olmsted landscape design and two gilded age mansions designed by Peabody & Stearns. Anchored by two historic mansions, what lays between is a collection of outbuildings designed in a similar vernacular of the original buildings on the premises. Four new cottages lead away from the historic mansions intended to be guest houses as seen in an English countryside manor. The core of the site is made up of four buildings, three of which set the edges for the resort pool. The new buildings are influenced by the old shaker villages of New England with their vertical board and batten siding and standing seam metal roofs and expand the idea of the manor house adding a carriage house, stable and barn. These core structures house the public spaces of the resort, with a 20,000sf spa, a wellness center, the culinary building, and an indoor fitness center. All buildings relate to a spine that protects the guests from the elements in the cold winters of the northeast.
